What is the 2nd Conference for Translation and Interpreting Professionals about?

The 2nd Conference for Translation and Interpreting Professionals focuses on translation and interpreting theory and training, as well as the challenges faced by industry professionals.

The Conference aims to present:

  • the current situation in the fields of professional translation and interpreting,
  • the methods, practices, and technology needed in Translation and Interpreting today,
  • the added value and contribution of T&I research in modern professional practice and training in these fields.

The motto of the Conference is "Are we fit for the future?" because we hope that this Conference will provide solutions to the crucial issues currently tackled by the industry, as well as answers that will help translation and interpreting professionals navigate the future.

Who is the Conference addressed to?

It is addressed to:

  • new professional translators and interpreters currently taking their first steps in the market,
  • seasoned professional translators and interpreters who want to find out about all the latest industry trends,
  • translation and interpreting students who want to network and explore their current professional prospects.
Where is the conference held?

In the "Georgios Karantzas" room, 1st floor, ESIEA Building, 20 Akadimias Street, 10671 Athens, Greece.

The closest Metro stations are Syntagma and Panepistimio

 

When is the conference held?

On Friday 20 October and Saturday 21 October 2023 (09:00-17:00).

The Conference coincides with the celebrations marking the 60-year anniversary of the Panhellenic Association of Translators.

Why?

Who will speak at the conference?

The keynote speaker is Gabriella Suzanne Vanzan - Vice Chairperson, FIT Europe.

Other speakers include professors from the Ionian University, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Cyprus, as well as experienced professionals in the fields of Translation and Interpreting.

What will I take away from attending the Conference?

Besides the interesting presentations on the latest developments in the Translation and Interpreting industry, the Conference will offer you the chance to network and liaise with other industry professionals.

Will I get a chance to ask questions during the Conference?

A special system will be in place for participant questions and/or comments, which will then be answered by the relevant panel.

Will I be able to talk to the speakers and other industry professionals?

There will be networking opportunities available both during and after the end of the Conference, including a networking event on Friday 20 October, 16:00-17:30. This is when you will have the chance to have one-on-one discussions with industry professionals.

 

I am neither a translator nor an interpreter. Can I attend the Conference?

Yes, of course you can.

Will I receive a certificate of attendance?

Yes. Consult the Conference Registration Desk.

How much?

How much is the Conference registration fee?

The fee is:

  • €80 for non-PEM members
  • €60 for PEM members
  • FREE for Students/PEM Associate members
How can I register for the Conference?

You can fill in the special registration form.

Within 2 working days, we will send you an email with all the information about how to deposit your registration fee.

Given that seating is limited, if all the spots have been filled, you will be placed on a waiting list and we will contact you if a spot becomes available.

Once you have secured your spot, on the day of the Conference, you must bring with you your payment receipt and valid photo ID.

 

How can I attend the Conference for free?

To do so, you must be a university student or an Associate member of PEM.

To secure your spot, you must first register online.

Then, on the day of the Conference, you must bring with you your university student ID or a student status certificate from your university department.

 

Can I only attend one day of the Conference and pay a reduced fee?

No, your registration is for both days of the Conference.

What else is included in the price?

The Conference fee includes:

  • Participation in the 2-day Conference.
  • Registration package (pen, programme, etc.).
  • Coffee & light lunch on both days of the conference.
  • Drinks & snacks during Friday’s networking event.
Is there a group discount for the Conference?

No. Participation in the Conference is personal. There are no group discounts.

I registered and paid for the Conference, but I won't be able to attend. Will I get a refund?

Unfortunately, registrations are final. There are no refunds.

Will I get a receipt for my Conference registration fee?

Yes, you will receive the receipt by email once you’ve paid the registration fee.
