Gabriella is an Austrian-Italian Conference interpreter and a conference interpreter trainer. She is an active member of the Italian and German professional conference interpreter associations Assointerpreti and VKD im BdÜ and a strong advocate of associativism.

 

She has been on the Board of FIT Europe (Regional Centre of the International Federation of Translators) since 2017 and has been serving as Vice Chair since 2021. She is a passionate environmental and climate activist.

Natalia Alexiou

Natalia was born in Thessaloniki but also spent part of her childhood in London and New Orleans. She graduated with honors from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and received scholarships for postgraduate studies in international law from the University of Cambridge. She began working as a translator while she was still a student. For a decade, she worked as a lawyer specializing in international transactions, information technology law, and civil law.

 

She has also worked as an academic researcher within the framework of a research program at AUTh. For several years, she was a lecturer in English legal language and terminology at the National School of Judges. She has also taught in the summer courses of Tulane University in Crete, Thessaloniki, and Rhodes, as well as in specialized programs at the University of Macedonia. Today, she runs her own legal translation business based in Thessaloniki.

George Floros

George is an Associate Professor of Translation Studies at the Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus. He holds a degree from the Department of German Language and Literature of the University of Athens (1995) and a doctoral title in Translation Theory from the University of Saarland in Germany (2001).

 

His research interests include translation theory and methodology, text linguistics, translation ethics, pragmatics, teaching of translation, terminology, history of translation, and the use of translation in other scientific fields.

 

He has coordinated and/or participated in many international and local research programs. He speaks English, German, and French, with basic knowledge of Spanish, Italian, and Turkish.

Haris Ghinos

Haris is the Vice-President of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC); Project Leader of the ISO TC37/SC5 Committee for ISO 23155:2022 Conference Interpreting Services.

 

He is the CEO Of ELIT Language Services and of the Athens Interpreting Hub (AIHub).

 

Haris is a certified interpreter for the European Union, European Parliament, European Council, FIFA, UEFA, FAO, Eurocontrol, among others. His work experience includes more than 4.000 conferences and meetings at the highest level for the Hellenic Presidency, the Hellenic Government and international organisations. He has worked as an executive for US-based multinationals in the Environment Technology sector as well as in advertising and conference organization.

 

He holds a B.A. in Physics (from Athens Kapodistrian University (ΕΚΠΑ), Greece) and a Master's degree in War Studies (from King’s College, London), International Politics (from ULB, Brussels) and Finance (from Athens University on Economics and Business, Greece).

Kyriaki Kourouni

Kyriaki works as Special Scientific Staff with focus on "Translation Practice through New Technologies" at the Department of English Language and Literature, School of Philosophy, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Prior to that, she was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Boğaziçi in Turkey.

 

She has extensive experience as a translator and subtitler. She studied English Language and Literature at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds a Master's degree in Translation from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, and holds a Master's degree in Translation and Intercultural Studies as well as a European Doctorate (Doctor Europeus cum laude) from the Rovira i Virgili University in Spain. She has taught courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, related to translation technologies, translation theory and methodology, specialized translation, and research methodology. Her research interests focus on Translation Pedagogy and Translator Education.

 

She has served first as Vice President of the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies  (HS4TS) from 2008 to 2010, and then as a member in the Board of the Hellenic Society of Translation Studies (HS4TS) from 2017 to 2019. She was a Board member of the Board of the European Society for Translation Studies (EST) from 2013 to 2022, acting as Vice President during the triennium 2016-2019. From 2019 to 2022, she served as a member of the Gender Equality Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

 

She coordinates the Wikicommittee of EST and is a member of the Gender Equality Committee of the School of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Society for Applied Linguistics (2021-).

Marisa Lavda

Marisa is a graduate of Ionio University's Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Intepreting (DFLTI), Greece. She has been working 28 years in the European Union translations sector.

Elpida Loupaki

Elpida is an Associate Professor at the Department of French Language and Literature at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she teaches translation workshops from French to Greek, terminology search and documentation courses, and terminology management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her main research focus is "Descriptive Translation Studies & Terminology".

 

She is a graduate of the Department of French Language and Literature at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds a bachelor's and master's degree in professional translation from the Institut de Traducteurs d’Interprètes et de Relations Internationales of the University of Strasbourg, and a PhD from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Language and Communication Sciences. She is also certified by ECQA for Terminology Management.

 

She is the Scientific Coordinator for the Erasmus+ program DIALOGOS KA220-HED - Cooperation partnerships in higher education (2022-2025) and has participated in the research team of the European program TRAMIG (2019-2021). Since 2016, she has collaborated with ELOT as a terminology and translation harmonization verifier. Over the last decade, she has coordinated more than twelve terminology projects in collaboration with the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament (TermCoord) and four terminology projects in collaboration with the Translation Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Her work has been published in Greek and international scientific journals, conference proceedings, and collective volumes. She has contributed to two collective volumes of the Action "Greek Academic Textbooks / Kallipos" and has translated two books from French to Greek for Patakis Editions.

 

She is a member of the European Society for Translation Studies, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Society for Terminology (ELETO), a member of the scientific committee of the Hellenic Society for Terminology (EDO), and the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies (PEM). Costas Nadalis

Costas was born in Athens in 1959 and studied mathematics and physics in England and later archaeology, ancient history, and informatics in Canada, at McGill University. He began his career at ORCO S.A. in 1988 as an IT specialist and soon became a key figure in a series of IT projects, software development, and organizational and information systems studies for major clients, gaining expertise in the organization and information systems of air transport.

 

Since 1989, he has been involved in translation, particularly in major technical translation and Greek localization projects, initially as a project manager for a series of projects for IBM and subsequently for other major clients such as Microsoft and Oracle. Concurrently, he has been engaged in the use and development of translation assistance and translation project management tools. Since 2002, he has been responsible for technical support and training in Trados and SDL Trados products. He served as the Director of the Technical Translation and Software Localization Department, shareholder, and Vice President of ORCO S.A. until 2007.

 

Since 2008, he has been offering his services as an independent technical consultant, analyst, programmer, and trainer in the broader field of translation and software localization in Greece and abroad through his company, TMServe. He is involved in technology in translation, the use and development of translation assistance, quality control, processing, and translation management tools, as well as training in machine translation systems and the use of artificial intelligence in the broader translation field.

 

He has taught Trados (certified trainer since 2002) at ORCO and PEP, Translation Project Management at meta|φραση, Translation Tools in the postgraduate translation program at Hellenic American University, and has been a certified trainer in Memsource/Phrase since 2016. He recently retired (August 2023) but continues to be active in the field.

Mavina Pantazara

Mavina is an Associate Professor in the Department of French Language and Literature at the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), specializing in 'Translation, Terminology, and Language Technology.' She holds a Bachelor's degree from the Department of Philology at NKUA, with a major in Linguistics, and possesses postgraduate and doctoral degrees in Language Sciences from the University Paris 8 in France.

Her research and scholarly activities focus on applied translation studies, contrastive French-Greek studies, computational linguistics, lexicography, and terminology. She has participated in national and European research programs related to natural language processing and has been involved in the design, writing, and editing of printed and electronic dictionaries. Her works have been published in Greek and international scientific journals, conference proceedings, and collective volumes. She has translated philosophical and psychoanalytic works from French to Greek for Greek publishing houses (Paul Ricœur, Colette Soler, among others) and was the scientific editor for the collective translation of Michael Cronin's book Translation in the Digital Age by students of the Interdepartmental MA program 'Translation-Translation Studies' at NKUA (EST Translation Prize 2018).

She is a member of the Administrative Board of the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies (HS4TS), Vice-President of the Hellenic Terminology Society (ELETO), a member of its Scientific Council, and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Hellenic Terminology Network (EDO), coordinated by the Department of Greek Language at the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission. Her activities revolve around standardization in language, terminology, language technologies, and services, where she participates as an expert in the works of the International Committee TC 37 'Language and terminology' of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Despina Pilou

Holding a Bachelor degree in Translation and a Master of Arts in Creative Writing, Despina is currently a PhD Candidate in the field of History and Political Science.

 

Her research interests include Transcreation, Creative Writing, Gaming Localization, MTPE, History, and the Media. She has 16 years of experience as a Project Manager in the localization industry.

 

She has been working with ORCO S.A. since 2015, managing translation projects and the linguistic coordination of strategic accounts and clients. Currently her role focuses on the optimization of production workflows and is part of the Business Development team at ORCO, aiming to develop new services, such as Multimedia Localization.

 

She has presented her work titled "Creative Writing in the constantly evolving landscape of localization: a bidirectional relationship" at the 5th International Creative Writing Conference, co-organized by the University of Western Macedonia, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Universita Degli Studi di Palermo, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (16-18 September 2022, Palermo).

Stavroula Sokoli

Stavroula is a researcher at the IITD "Diophantus" and a Professor-Advisor at the Hellenic Open University. She has coordinated and participated in a significant number of national and international projects in the field of audiovisual translation and education. With over 25 publications, she is a frequently invited speaker at conferences and seminars.
She has also been working as a subtitler and trainer of subtitlers since 2001, collaborating with Deluxe as the Head of the Greek Language since 2016. She is the Vice-President of ESIST (European Association of Studies in Screen Translation) and a member of the board of the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies.

Vilelmini Sosoni

Vilelmini is an Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University in Greece. She has taught Specialised Translation in the United Kingdom at the University of Surrey, the University of Westminster, Roehampton University and the University of Wolverhampton, and in Greece at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Metropolitan College and the Institut Français d’ Athènes. She also has extensive professional experience having worked as a translator, editor and subtitler. She studied English Language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds an MA in Translation and a PhD in Translation and Text Linguistics from the University of Surrey.

 

Her research interests lie in the areas of the Translation of Institutional and Political Texts, Corpus Linguistics, Audiovisual Translation and Accessibility, as well as Machine Translation and Cognitive Science. She is, among others, a founding member of the Laboratory Language and Politics of the Ionian University and the Greek Chapter of Women in Localization, the vice-president of the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies, a researcher in the Hellenic OCR Team and a member of the Advisory Board and the Management Board of the European Master’s in Technology for Translation and Interpreting (EM TTI) funded by Erasmus+. She has participated in several EU-funded projects, notably Resonant, Resonant+, Trumpet, TraMOOC, Eurolect Observatory and was the coordinator at the Ionian University of the project Training Action for Legal Practitioners: Linguistic Skills and Translation in EU Competition Law. Maria Stasimioti

Maria is a member of the Slator team, a leader in the field of applied business research in translation, localization, and language technology worldwide. George Stathis

George studied at the Kapodistrian University of Athens and has been working as a professional sign language interpreter since 2013.

 

He pursued a Master's Degree at the University of Macedonia in International Relationships and European Policies regarding the accessibility of people with disabilities.

 

In 2017 he founded the first sign language interpreting agency in Greece and in 2019 he was elected President of the Association of the Interpreters of Greek Sign Language (AIGSL), while in 2020 he became the secretary general of the European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (EFSLI). He has participated in European and International Conferences about deafness and sign language interpretation, and also in specific training on audiovisual translation, such as: subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing and acoustic description for people with visual disabilities. He was a mentor to social startups in the 6th cycle of the EGG program. He speaks English and Russian, has a braille certification and he has also been a martial arts athlete for many years.

 

In September 2019 he published his first book and in 2020 the first accessible fairytale for deaf and blind children in Greece.

 

He collaborates as a sign language interpreter with the Hellenic Federation of the Deaf and the National Institution for the deaf.

 

In September 2016 he took on the role of communication coordinator at the EFSLI European conference which took place in Athens, while he is currently the Head of the Organizing Committee for the Conference which will take place in September 2023 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Pantelis Tsigkas

Pantelis is a Greek Supreme Court Lawyer, a graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and holds a Master's degree (Master of Laws - LLM) in the International Commerce and European Law from the International University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

 

He has been certified by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in London as an arbitrator for commercial and civil disputes. Moreover, he has certified as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) by the Maastricht University and the European Center for Protection and Cybersecurity (ECPC).

Eleni Tziafa

Eleni is an Associate Professor specializing in "Translation, Text Processing, and Digital Media" at the Department of French Language and Literature, School of Philosophy, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds a degree in Philology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a postgraduate diploma from the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program in Language and Communication Sciences in the New Economic Environment, with a specialization in "Applications of Technology in Language and Communication," and a doctorate from the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program in Translation and Interpreting at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

 

She has extensive experience as a professional translator, interpreter, editor, and subtitler. Among other works, she has translated the book Found in Translation: How Language Shapes Our Lives and Transforms the World by Nataly Kelly & Jost Zetzsche. She has participated in various research programs in Greece and abroad. Her research interests focus on translation, computational linguistics, and language technology. She researches the use of corpus linguistics tools and methods and the utilization of digital media in issues related to translation, discourse analysis, language learning, audiovisual translation, translation, and translator education through new technologies, and volunteer translation.
